Patients should be informed that this department is a private for profit opticians called Newmedica and is not run directly by George Eliot Hospital under the NHS.

The NHS eye department is situated at University Hospital Waslsgrave

in Coventry. All eye problems requiring treatment are are referred there by GE A&E department.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for taking the time to review our services.

You are correct in quoting Newmedica, who are contracted by the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust to provide the Ophthalmology service here. Rather than being a private supplier they have been acting on behalf of the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust since 2010 when they were sourced to assist with the long waiting lists.

With regard to emergency treatment for eyes, defined as 'patients who require urgent on the day review or treatment'; patients attending via Urgent Care or Accident and Emergency will be advised to attend University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire or the University Hospital of Leicester.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your care or experience of using the Ophthalmology services here, the department will be happy to discuss this with you and can be contacted via PALS.
