"Unsatisfactory appointment at Out patient Chest..."

About: Ealing Hospital / Respiratory medicine

I am a 72 year old fit and healthy individual. Although I had a Pneumonia jab in 2015, I suffered from Pneumonia in Sept 2017 with a 5 day hospital stay. Ever since then, I have been an Out Patient in the Chest Clinic - being seen every 3/6 months. I used to see a doctor, who I found very helpful, caring and knowledgeable.

In August again this year, I had similar symptoms to that of Pneumonia. After nearly finishing 2 lots of antibiotics, I was not getting better, so my GP advised me to go to A&E for a Blood Test and Chest X-ray. On 16 August, after a 3 and a half hour wait in Triage, I saw a Dr who listened to my chest. He said as my chest was clear it did not warrant an X-ray or Blood test. He thought I had the Flu and sent me home.

As I got no better, about 10 days later, I ended up yet again in

A&E ( after being advised by the 111 service).

I was in A&E from 3.30pm to 11.30pm on 27 August. I was taken to Ward AMU where I spent 1 night/day and was given Antibiotics, Steroids and Nebuliser. I was sent home with the antibiotics and steroid course to complete plus 2 Inhalers.

In the last month, I've had 4 lots of antibiotics, the last being a double dose which was given to me after being discharged. All this for someone whose body is not used to medicine!

A few days later, I spoke with a very helpful Receptionist at Appointments who brought forward my Chest Clinic appointment to 12 Sept. 2019.

What puzzles me is that the doctor who saw me on 12 Sept never listened to my chest! (It was the same when I saw him about 4 months earlier!) He saw me 35 mins late and did not even apologise!

He asked me to have some more Blood tests and said I needed a Bronchoscopy. An appointment will be made for me and would be in a couple of weeks. I await this.
