Following an eye infection I starting to develop a strong fever and other symptoms, which I was told I should contact my GP if things got worse. They had, I was feeling horrendous, beyond that of a cold but not flu.
Phoned at 0800hrs, and got through to a receptionist. Now I fully understand that a series of questions are to be asked and you do probably get people who come in with 'just' a common cold. I tried explaining over the phone that my eye was now fine but I'd developed further symptoms, the receptionist spoke as if I was causing an inconvenience by explaining this as "it wasn't an eye clinic", spoke down at me. She mentioned "you do know there's no sure for the cold or flu" to which I explained yes, and I felt it was more than this and had be told to call in should it get worse.
Anyway, after I felt like I was being spoken to by a school teacher I got an appointment with a nurse (as it was obviously just a cold). Only to be diagnosed with a severe ear infection, chest infection and throat infection needing a strong course of antibiotics.
I feel a little more courtesy and a less patronising tone would be appreciated. Leave the diagnosis to the doctors.
