"My care"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / General medicine

(as the patient),

On St Mawes it was ok, but the docs seemed to not think I would live so I felt they did not care about me. Had no control with my bladder or rectal regions so was left in my bed with excrement and wee, did not clean me up, as I was on death's door so why bother. Well I survived and living to tell the tale. Well even if you are on deaths door surely it should be in comfort not in excrement. I feel the treatment I had was bad as I was expected to die. No care at all.

Then transferred to Glanville a bit better but still told by a doctor that I still may not live well I think that is bad to write me off. Had really bad stomach problem could not control my bowels at all, Well the nurses told me off for no control of my bowels and moaned about having to change my bed. I called and called for an hour for a commode no response as it seemed they had more important things to deal with? I am disgusted with my treatment, at least I am living to tell many are not. Disgusted with the treatment at the hospital.

Dear h2019,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us, I am so sorry that your experience in our hospital has not been a positive one. It is so disappointing to see that you found the Doctors to be uncaring and that you were left in soiled bedding. This is certainly not the level of care we would expect any of our patients to receive.

We would really like to look into these particular events for you; if you would be happy for us to do so or if there are any other concerns we can help to resolve for you please contact our Patient and Family Experience (Complaints) team by leaving a message on 01872 252793 or email rcht.patientexperience@nhs.net. Once we have received your details, a Case Worker will get back to you discuss your concerns. They can then liaise directly with the wards you are referring to and ensure that your experience is investigated.

In the meantime, I will be sharing your story with the staff involved in your care on St Mawes ward and Grenville so they can reflect on your experience and look to make improvements so that this doesn't happen to any of our patients again in the future.

Best wishes,

Jess
