"Theraputic Relationships"

About: Rampton Hospital / Mental Health Service

(as the patient),

I am a Patient on Blake ward.

Theraputic Relationships and the Staff helps me feel safe, but more activities would be helpful and also when we get new Patients keep them on levels longer. To be effective on this ward communication with Staff and asking staff how to get better is a positive, I think we could communicate with our named nurses more and also have our named nurse in the ward rounds. Family visits and getting fed on time makes me feel cared for but again I would like to see more activities more Fresh Air breaks and planned sessions to increase. Being responsive, Staff will act on stuff like negative energy. It could be better if Patients were on the correct wards especially those of us who don’t need to be on an admission ward.. You need more treatment wards. I think relating to our community on the ward, Boredom; doing the same thing every day is not easy. Explain about medications, explain how to distract yourself, explain how to help your self would be positives.. To improve a sensory room would be good but using the MDT room in the meantime, I would like to make a sensory CD

Hi, Thankyou for your posting. I can assure you that Therapies and Education Department are in the process of recruiting more staff into the Day Units and the Vocational Areas.

This will mean more access to activities which I hope will assist you through your recovery pathway.

Kind regards
Sue

Thanks for this posting and for explaining how you feel. This is very helpful. As Sue says, TED is recruiting more staff for activities. We are also working on reconfiguring the wards to help us use our capapcity more effectively.

Best wishes.

Peter

Thank you so much for taking part in this piece of work fir us to understand your experience on the ward and how we can improve the care and Sevice your receive as well as improving your experience in the hospital.

We have some ideas of how we support a more meaningful day for patients on the wards and once we have these transferred in to a plan we will be sharing with staff and patients and we hope you will be pleased with the outcome. We totally appreciate that it’s a long day on the ward, especially the admission wards and we hope these plans will support you on a daily basis to be more active and relieve the boredom and hopefully create a better sense of community between staff and patients. Fresh air in the MH care stream has been reviewed and we are hoping you have already seen improvement with this. We are monitoring it on a daily basis and made this a priority for the hospital managers to ensure this is facilitated.

I am pleased to hear staff support you and help you feel safe, this is an essential part of a therapeutic relationship. The challenge we are currently facing with named nurses being in all ward rounds is the increased in the number of patients they care for and being able to be on duty for all those MDT reviews. However this is something we hope with improve once we have more qualified staff, which s increasing by the month. Do you have the opportunity to speak with your named nurse before you ward round and feedback your wishes? Please let me know how we can improve this via your community meetings and your ward manager can feed back to me or write to me.

Your comments regarding being on the right ward was raised last year in a forum and we have already redesigned the wards to have two admission wards and more treatment wards to facilitate a positive and quicker care pathway. We are in the transition process of moving patents around to fit in the wards but this will take time.

If you would like more information regarding your medication your ward pharmacist will be happy to spend time with you 1-1 to go through these. Ask your ward manager to contact them and make you an appointment.

Once I have read and responded to all these posting ( over 50 I believe) I will collate the themes and produce a quality improvement plan so you can see your voice has been heard and hopefully see how this translates to action and genuine involvement.

Thank you

Adele Fox
