I gave birth to my baby daughter by emergency c-section in August (early hours of morning - night shift staff were on shift). After a difficult and prolonged labour, we took the decision to have a c-section.
From the moment of having the first discussion with the obstetric registrar, then discussing and signing the consent form, I felt involved in the decision making, well-informed and calm. The obstetric registrar was professional and caring and really listened and her communication was two-way and very clear.
The anaesthetic registrar was also very thorough and professional in communicating with myself and my husband about the spinal anaesthetic and what to expect during the procedure and post operatively.
The staff in theatre were all amazing and really put myself and my husband at ease and made what could have been a stressful time into a really lovely, calm and personal experience. Particular thanks to the theatre nurse (?Andrea) who explained everything that was happening in theatre. The anaesthetist was also brilliant at communicating with us while in theatre. Small touches by theatre staff, such as asking our option on the music playing to lowering the drapes so we could see baby being born really made the experience personal to us (things that may seem small meant a huge amount to us).
I want to thank all the staff who looked after us on the midwife unit, labour ward, obstetric theatre and Ashgrove postnatal ward. The level of care and professionalism was excellent throughout. Thank you for safely delivering our daughter. The NHS provided exemplary care to myself and my daughter and the staff involved should all know that they did a wonderful job!
