"Nhs emergency service from home to Bournemouth..."

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital / Accident and emergency

my 82 year old mother fell on Friday night and waited til Saturday 6 am to tell us she couldn't breathe because she bashed her chest . On calling 111 a fast response paramedic arrived quickly and efficiently assessed her and spent the next hour and a half with her because of her medical need . He then made an appointment with a GP at 9.45 at Wimborne hospital. This appointment led to us coming to Bournemouth AMU . And spending the day until she was discharged at 8 pm . I would like to say what a wonderful, caring , efficient, attentive, and understanding group of people we met during this experience. My mother is deaf and is petrified of any medical professional as she thinks they are going to tell her she is going to die. They all took time to communicate clearly (as she lip reads) and allowed a family member to stay with her at all times. They were some of the best medical professionals with a very efficient service, I think they day being spent getting to the bottom of the problem she had was well worth the time, I cannot understand complaints about waiting to get the help you need . Mum now has a follow up appointment on Friday for a previously undiagnosed condition which could be life threatening or disabling. This service deserves praise through the roof and with such strains on the system I for one would like to thank all those who helped us on the day .

Dear Teresa

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your mother’s experience following her fall.

It must have been a worrying time for her being so fearful of the medical profession and also for you and your family worrying about your mum.

We are pleased to hear that staff from the ambulance service, GP practice, Wimborne hospital and our own team hear at RBCH all worked together smoothly to provide your mum with a positive impression of health care in Dorset and were able to recognise a previously undiagnosed condition.

We hope this has helped your mum with some of her fears and also put your mind at rest with regard to your mum.

Hopefully the condition is treatable and she is making a good recovery following her fall.

We will pass on your kind comments to the ward sister the share with the rest of her team who I know will value your feedback.

Regards

Patient Experience Team
