I am far from a regular visitor to hospital and haven't been to emergency for years. Well i took my 18 year old there as she has pneumonia and has finished her antibiotics and was really no better and was getting pain in her chest, sweating and confused. It was before 10 pm and the wait was 3 hours it said. She was assessed quite quickly with an ECG blood test etc and then we were told to wait. There was no bustle as I have seen in the past. It was slow and impersonal. A lot of eating, tea drinking and chatting going on. We waited and waited and a few majors came in which delayed us even more and minors injuries and UCC closed so all we had was majors. I asked a few times and said if it's just pain from coughing just let us know and we'll go. There was a poor elderly lady who looked dreadfully ill sitting for the whole time we were there in a wheelchair. It was 5pm before we were seen to be told that the pain was just from coughing and to take cocodemol. How ridiculous. It really needs a new approach and more staff.
"Long wait"
