Firstly - I was given a date to come in for surgery, I was delighted and as soon as put the phone I was met omg surgery this is going to hurt!! The staff phoned me up the next and informed me what I would need in preparation for my due date, which was very helpful. I had a consent meeting with the consultant and went through the procedure. I started to become less anxious because he broke it down to me, which helped. On the day ( 7.00am) I was dropped off and was met with one of the nurses who took the usual blood and blood pressure tests. Already I started to feel at home and very relaxed joking with staff. I was given the opportunity to talk to all the people involved, which made me feel that I was part of the partnership. I actually felt really safe in their hands and before I knew it, I was awoken by smiling faces who explained where I was and that had gone well. I was then transferred to a very clean ward and was given something to eat and drink, which really helped me to come around and gather my faculties. I was met by the physiotherapist and it was explained to me about the next stages of recovery. The nursing staff kept in constant touch and asked me about pain management. This was important element as I needed to know how this would be managed. All through the night, me along with other patients were monitored for pain control. All I can say after this experience is that it was excellent, operation excellently carried out, staff excellent. It was definitely a five star service, really friendly and supportive staff from front of house to the surgeons and admin. I would really like to thank them all individually for the commitment and dedication to the patients thank you Orpington Hospital ❤️
