"Not what was promised"

About: Murrayside Care Home

(as a relative),

We were promised the world by Murrayside care home Edinburgh - specialised dementia care, intense individual attention and plenty of activities etc. The experience in reality was very different. My relative was on the “dementia specialist floor” where there were more staff than residents. We found him wandering the halls constantly, caught up in curtains in the hall, left in the dining room - on one occasion carrying a knife. He was frequently soiled when we found him, at one stage I offered to help a carer change him and ended up doing it myself after she walked away. The staff quickly decided he needed care elsewhere within 3 weeks because they said they couldn’t care for him and sent him by taxi one night to the Royal Edinburgh (who cared for him impeccably), at Christmas time.

I think this care home is the very definition of style over substance and unless there have been dramatic improvements I wouldn’t step foot in the place again. It’s very important to state that some of the staff were very caring and helpful and cannot he faulted but a hugely disappointing and hurtful experience.
