Gallbladder removal with complication of Myasthinia Gravis
my experience in General Surgery was fantastic. It was an elective surgery due to Gall Bladder stones and infection developing into jaundice with A and E visits in the summer of 2018 and 2 stays in hospital of 5/6 day durations. The op could not go ahead until the Myasthinia was under control. The day went very well, the staff in the Surgical Admissions ward were kind, calm and vey friendly. I met with my Anethestist and we had a clear and cheerful communication. The anaesthetist helped to dispel my Fear at this stage! After checks and prep I was ready to go into Surgery and was calmly and gently taken to the prep room pre op. Lots of people all lovely. Meds given and I woke up several hours later in ICU. Due to Myasthinia I had some breathing issues which were well handled expertly by the team. A neurologist, very pleasant and caring) checked up on me as did my Anaestheist. The Team in ICU were fantastic, ever present, efficient, friendly, caring and knowledgable. My surgeon was lovely, had assured me prior to the op and he came to see me next day followed by a team of 5 or so youngsters all in awe.
The Anaesthetist in ICU was extremely helpful and kind and the whole 2 days, although a blur, went well. I almost enjoyed myself!! The Nurses were great, the cleaner was great and the food was lovely. I had a veg Lasagne next day! I stayed overnight being discharged on Friday at about 3pm. The nurse on the Friday was of special note, from Yorkshire and was 'Old School" style. Efficient, friendly, knowledgable, kind and very gentle yet with a no nonsense approach, an agency nurse who had moved to Kent in the last year. All in all it is the NHS which makes Britain great and on this occasion matched up to the highest expectations. A big thank you. I am now recovering very well.
