My GP referred me to the Medical Assessment Unit at Chorley Hospital following a collapse. On arrival around 1945 hrs on the Friday before Aug Bank Hol, it was obvious that there would be a long wait, as the Unit was absolutely packed. It was hot, staff were clearly under a great deal of pressure, and waiting areas and Wards were full. A number of people had already been waiting hours. I was triaged around 2300 hrs by a Nurse who had multi-tasking skills second to none, and seen by the very pleasant SHO at around 0400 hrs before being admitted. I cannot praise all members of Staff involved in my care, whatever rank. Yes, it was frustrating and tiring to wait, but seeing the dedicated staff give their all was a very humbling experience.
All gave their time, knowledge, care and their all to whatever job was required, including a reassuring arm round the shoulder to patients as the night wore on. Take a bow, staff at MAU Chorley Hospital!
