"Welcome Surprise"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Cardiology

I visited

A.C.U at The Royal Oldham after being seen by my G.P who thought I had a D.V.T.and was very pleasantly surprised at the speed, empathy, and above all the pleasantness and efficiency of the staff. Over the last 7 years I and my family have had some very poor experiences at the same hospital, but I am pleased to say that this one wasn't. I was seen within 5 mins at ACU both the doctor and especially the nurse were really kind and knew their stuff. I didn't have a DVT, but they went on to take bloods as I had, had similar problems before. I was then asked to wait 90 minutes for the results but told it would be quite alright to go and get something to drink, as long as I came back. .As it was dinner time I went into the café and had something to eat and drink in a very clean and popular restaurant. The food was really good and well served. I returned to A.C.U and with great empathy was told that I was going to be admitted as a health problem I had, had before had re-occurred. The staff were so nice and friendly they put me at ease whilst they attended to my health problem. At 7.45 I was taken by a porter to F8 and what a wonderful ward I was put into. The staff could not have been nicer and because of their attitude the patients, who were already being treated also were. They could not do enough for the patients, the ward was regularly cleaned, the beds changed and straightened and even though they were kept very busy they had time to make patients feel as though they really cared. The doctors on the ward also were kept very busy but kept the patients including myself informed about the results of tests, and what the results meant. They gave us their time, to talk, and explained why somethings were not working, in a very nice manner. When it came to being discharged that again was made easy and any problems that were had were easily solved. My experiences in the past have been very poor and upsetting with doctors, at times, talking down to patients. Nurses not really showing that they were capable and making it known how busy they were, but if this is a new start at Royal Oldham then I would advise anybody not to look elsewhere especially for heart problems.
