My husband came home from hospital for his last month on earth. The intense care team came into our lives at that time and so also did nurses from Muirhead District Nursing Team. 2 of these nurses Maureen and Pamela were outstanding in all that they did. Their professionalism and the way they attended to my husband was excellent.
He was treated with such care and dignity on each visit and my family and I will be forever grateful to them for this. We could never have coped without them and without their overall support for not just John, but for ourselves too. I feel certain that it would hardly be possible to have this level of care and attention in a hospital and therefore we know that having John at home was the best decision we made. These nurses made this wish of John’s - to be at home at this time - a reality.
I know it must have been difficult for them to have to come in here to deal with not just John, but with us too. Our emotions were all over the place then. We experienced feelings of not just sorrow and hopelessness, but anger and not daring to face up to reality and Maureen and Pamela dealt most professionally with all of this. Their presence was such a comfort to us as well and we could see their devotion in everything they did. I know that having them in our home has actually helped me to cope with my sorrow and loss, because I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that without their loving care and support things would have been very different.
