"My labour story"

About: Fraserburgh Hospital / Maternity Peterhead Community Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I would like to thank the lovely midwife team at Peterhead Maternity Unit for the excellent care both my daughter and I received during my pregnancy, Labour and post natal too. After a long Labour with my first child I was initially quite apprehensive about labour anywhere other than a hospital where doctors would be nearby however after discussions with my midwife Ruth we both agreed there was no reason I couldn’t deliver in a midwife led unit and looking back now I’m so glad I stuck by this decision.

My Labour started on the morning of 22/07 and I was progressing fast so we quickly made our way to Peterhead maternity and to my surprise I was already 9cm by the time I arrived. I was naturally in a lot of pain due to the speed I was progressing however the Midwives and Student Midwife made me feel so relaxed and were so encouraging and assuring the whole time.  3 hours after arriving at hospital my daughter was born and we were moved to post natal care where again we received so much support especially in relation to breastfeeding. As I had a 2 night stay I met quite a few Midwives but my care was never any different when there was a shift change - I could tell that everyone was part of one team and this is one of the main reasons I would recommend Peterhead Maternity Unit as you always feel like you are in good hands.

Even after discharge from midwife care I know I can speak to the team at any point as there is always a door is open approach from the team. Once again I would like to thank everyone at the unit for an overall great pregnancy, Labour and post natal experience- there is something I never thought I would say!

Dear NH

Please accept my apologies for my delay in responding to you. I have been on annual leave

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your recent birth experience from the Peterhead team. I am delighted you have received great care and will ensure to share this feedback with the team. I’m pleased Ruth discussed the CMU as a birth option for you

It is always lovely to receive feedback and to hear women’s experiences. Delighted that you were supported with breast feeding and also during your post natal stay

The team will be thrilled to hear your feedback

Wishing you much happiness with your family

Best wishes Rachael
