"The crewman kept checking how I was"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Victoria Hospital / Intensive Care Unit Victoria Hospital / Stroke

(as the patient),

I was working in my office and suddenly the room was moving and my left leg wouldn’t move -my colleagues phoned the ambulance which was with us in minutes and on the way to hospital the crewman kept checking how I was   aswell as asking me to say baby hippopotamus   , he kept me from being terrified as he was calm and we even had a laugh or two. I was taken to Queen Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy Fife where a team of nurses looked after me   with a Doctor in charge whilst my wife and I decided to choose Thrombolosis treatment which was then administered   without delay. I was then transferred to HDU where I was closely monitored and looked after by Jillian and Siobhan who I can’t thank enough for their attention and professionalism.

Dear Nevis,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback here on CareOpinion. I am sorry that you had the need to use our services and that of the wider NHS but I am very pleased to read about the staff involved, in particular the ambulance crew. It sounds like you have had an extremely frightening experience and I cannot imagine what it must have been like, but having worked on the front line I know that it is incredible the effects of being nice and encouraging a smile can have. Being treated as an individual with care and compassion is vitally important and it appears that this has happened on this occasion.

I do hope that you are on the road to a full recovery and I would like to wish you all the very best.

Kind Regards

Alan
