"Amazing care from every member of staff we..."

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus

I attended Children's A&E last night with my 8 year old son.

He was in a lot of discomfort and although it was very busy we were seen promptly by triage who reassured us both and gave my son some pain relief whilst we waited for a surgeon.

Both the surgeons who came to investigate my son's testicular pain were brilliant.

They were emotionally intelligent professionals who dealt with the situation perfectly; reassuring us both whilst they examined my son and then talked us both through the procedure they were going to perform.

They took the time to ensure that my son understood what was going to happen to him and gave him the opportunity to ask any questions.

Once up on the ward (D34) a fabulous trainee nurse looked after us for the rest of the night.

She was extremely positive and helped to reduce my son's anxiety about the operation. Whilst he was in surgery and recovery she gave me regular updates throughout the night.

She made his day by allowing him to have a tub of chocolate ice cream at 3am when he returned to the ward.

Having never stayed overnight with a child in hospital before, I was so impressed with the genuine level of care and compassion that all staff had.

Every member of staff seen from the triage nurse, the healthcare assistant who took us up to the ward, the trainee nurse, the Costa staff at 2am, theatre staff and the surgeons were extremely welcoming and friendly and made my son and myself feel so at ease.

After being discharged this morning I left feeling immensely proud of the NHS staff at my local hospital.

I wanted to take the time to thank them for their tireless effort and genuine care and compassion they clearly showed from the moment we walked into A&E to the moment we left.

Wow! Thank you so much for your fantastic feedback for our Children's Emergency Department and Children’s Hospital and for sharing your experience with us. It’s great to hear that your son’s experience was a positive one, despite it clearly being a worrying time for all of you. I’m also pleased to hear that you were kept well informed at all times by staff and that this helped to reduce any anxiety that you and your son had about his procedure. I’ll certainly share your kind words with the teams in both the Children's Emergency Department and on Ward D34 in the Children's Hospital. They will be so pleased to read your comments.

All the best
