"Sexual health appointment"

About: NHS Grampian / Aberdeen Health and Care Village

(as the patient),

On phoning the clinic to book a sexual health check up, The receptionist firstly wouldn’t let me speak. They spoke from a script saying they’re were no available appointments for this month phone back on Friday. So eventually it was my turn to speak and I said I don’t require an appointment for at least a month due to working offshore I will be unavailable to phone back on Friday, they said they couldn’t book me an appointment and I would have to call back when I got home. Surely when I get home it will be the same no appointments phone back, I believe this service is shocking as I had given a lot of notice to try get an appointment, I am disappointed at how I was spoken to and how unaccommodating this receptionist was!

Dear patient concerned,

Thank you firstly for taking the time to give us feedback which we are keen to receive to ensure we provide high quality, patient centred care. I am extremely sorry to hear about your experience with our member of reception staff who you state was not polite or helpful towards you. This is not the standard of care that we expect within the Sexual Health department and I will be investigating to determine the cause and improvements that need to be made.

Firstly we are working hard to improve access for appointments however have several current challenges including staffing at present. This should improve by August 2019. We, however, also understand the difficulties you may face working offshore, so I would be happy to try and arrange a suitable appointment for you and also explain our appointment system in more detail, which can be via email if that is preferable. Please feel free to contact me directly on 01224 655516 or email jennifer.matthews1@nhs.net.

Again, thank you for taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention which I will share with the whole team at Sexual Health. We are always keen to look at how we best deliver services to our patients and work really hard to improve using comments and feedback we receive.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,

Jennifer
