"I’d return there in a heartbeat"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I had my son at the RVI in May this year. I had switched from NSECH to RVI through personal choice.

I was admitted evening before and from the onset the staff were amazing .

I started on on assessment (the staff there were great, professional and friendly ) then went to the birthing centre where the staff couldn’t of been more amazing so knowledgable friendly and supportive . There was a student working that night/morning but unfortunately I’ve forgotten her name. She was that professional and such a natural I’d assumed she’d been qualified years!

Unfortunately due to complications (I stopped dilating) I was moved upstairs where I met another fantastic team, again friendly, professional and all round lovely people they were great with me, my partner, my mother and sister ,  they couldn’t of done more for us. I felt safe and looked after the whole time I was there.

Everything done was explained thoroughly.

So at this point I’d met assessment staff, birthing centre staff and delivery suite staff - all amazing at what they do, I can honestly say they do not get the credit they deserve !

Further complications (babies heart rate dropped) resulted in me being rushed to theatre - the way it was handled was second to non . They moved like lightening to get us there all the while reassuring me and my partner and keeping up conversation to distract me whilst explaining to my partner what was happening - the skills the staff here hold I can’t put into words how grateful I am!

They delivered my son with forceps, I ended up with a 3rd degree tear but due to the great staff on that day I’ve been left with no complications and according to my midwife extremely neat stitching ! again I didn’t get names but whoever was in theatre that day couldn’t improve if they tried ! They were all lovely .

That evening my son didnt settle well , the staff couldn’t of helped me more settling him and even taking him away for a little bit so I could rest . The day staff on the Saturday were equally as lovely . I do remember the midwife that day was called Sally . She was really nice, knowledgeable and professional as well as showing a lot of empathy as did the rest of her team that day , from the midwives to the health cares, they are all an absolute credit to  the hospital .

I can’t express how amazing they are. I’ve been told numerous times since it was a traumatic delivery however I can’t say I feel that way as the staff done such an amazing job looking after me and my son that I found it to be a really pleasant experience overall . I’d return to the RVI maternity centre in a heartbeat .

Also aftercare here provided due to my tear was great , I’ve made a full recovery and again met another friendly professional members off staff in the physiotherapist .

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback regarding your care at the Women's Services, RVI. We are pleased that everyone you encountered was professional and caring and that you have made a full recovery following great aftercare. We have forwarded to the directorate concerned, who will share with the staff directly involved and the wider team.
