"Amazing work"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Clinical assessment unit Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Outpatients Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Xrays & Scans

(as the patient),

Having been unwell for a few weeks and attending GP it was decided to send me to the CAU at Forth valley, on arrival I was taken to a nurse who took a few blood samples and blood cultures, this happened three times during the day, I also spoke to a doctor and told the history of my illness, I was then very quickly seen by a consultant in the unit who listened to the history, asked questions and gave me a thorough examination, medication was also discussed, after deciding a course of action I was sent home, the following day I received a phone call from Dr Leich the consultant with an itinerary for the following day, which included echo cardiogram a picc line, appointment with Dr Baggott the infectious diseases consultant who had information from the microbiologists who do amazing work in the background and was able to start my treatment right away that day.

28 days after treatment started I was well enough to have my line removed by the Opat team who carried out the daily treatment and allowed me to be home and not in hospital. In 2007 I was in a hospital bed for nine weeks, totally different way of treatment from twelve years ago and I am so grateful to the team of doctors nurses and radiographers who work as a team and care for their patients, thank you all once again, you are all stars.

Dear Not a purple polo shirt,

Thank you for this extremely positive feedback, it’s lovely to hear you had such a streamlined journey.

The OPAT service can only work efficiently with the help and expertise of all the departments you have encountered.

I will pass this on to all the OPAT team.

Isobel.
