"5 star treatment - felt like private hospital!"

About: University Hospital (Coventry) / General surgery

Let me begin by saying when my consultant sent me to the Endoscopy department for a Gastroscopy appointment, I was typically expecting the usual 3-4 month wait NHS has become notorious for!

To my surprise within 5 mins got an appointment exactly in one months time.

Come the Endoscopy day, I was nervous, but what a service the staff have provided.

The receptionist provided us numbers and duly processed our case and handed us over to our nurse.

I can name two members of staff who were excellent in explaining everything before the procedure.

I felt so comfortable and confident.

One member of staff was very friendly and genuinely caring and after the procedure took good care of me making sure my blood oxygen count and blood pressure were monitored every 5 mins.

She even dropped me to the exit door and made sure I had my wife to take me home as I had opted for intravenous anesthesia.

Well done and you do NHS and your department proud.

As for the procedure itself - it only last less than 5 mins and again the nurses there introduced themselves and so did the doctor and all the while through the procedure kept encouraging me by saying I was doing well and its almost over.

The human touch helps in calming the patient anxiety I had.

Top marks to them too (Sorry forgot name for the nursers in the gastroscopy room - as I was sedated!).

I am so impressed with the treatment I received and even told my wife on our way home that I felt like I was given five star treatment as if it was a private hospital!
