"My Dad"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My dad was admitted to stepping hill hospital four weeks ago with a stroke, was in intensive care then moved to A10 and from then on has gone down hill I feel that his care has been appalling, with a nurse allegedly sat with him 24/7 he has managed to fall out of bed, pull tubes out etc.   Nasal tube fitted wrongly causing chest infection.   He is unable to swallow and therefore is on oral hygiene which has been so poor that his lips and roof of his mouth are now bleeding, he has been left without the tpn for days at a time.

Is on the list for a peg tube (referred two weeks ago) looking at him and his weight loss he will be to weak to have this, TPN has gone directly into tissue as vein has collapsed but went unnoticed until my mum pointed it out to a nurse, she also pointed out a sore lip which was left three days and has still not been treated hence now bleeding as skin is breaking down I could go on but would be here all day based on our experience I would not recommend this ward.

Thank you for taking the time to share your family's experience with us.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the problems that your Dad and your family have encountered. It is definitely not the Trust's expectation that any of our patients or their family's experience poor care and communication whilst in our care.

Could I please ask you to contact either myself or Emma Rogers to discuss these issues further?
