I am awaiting a minor operation to remove a lump from the little finger of my right hand, so would probably only require a local anaesthetic. this was to be done at the BMI Thornbury hospital in Sheffield. Then I received a letter telling me that due to my BMI being over 40 my operation was to be denied. First of all my BMI is actually 39, and I did attend this same hospital for a shoulder operation in November 2013, when no one even asked me about my BMI. And during this operation I did have a general anaesthetic with no issues.
Apparently this hospital seems to discriminate against anyone who is over (or just under it seems) a BMI of 40.
I feel this is no less serious than being Racist or Sexist, this hospital has made me feel as though I am a second class citizens.
How can this be legal?
"Being denied treatment due to a high BMI."
