"Care of my Mother"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / General surgery

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted to Shuttleworth ward after a fall in which she suffered a Peri Prosthetic Fracture , where a previous hip transplant terminated. Originally she was told her operation would be two days later, however the day before  she was put Nil By Mouth from 11PM until 10AM - then it was cancelled. The next day again it was NBM until the operation was again cancelled just after lunchtime, this was followed by a similar routine for the next three days, finally the operation taking place - more than a week after admission - and being bed ridden for all of this time.

She had become confused days before surgery due to being NBM so many times. Whilst waiting surgery she had a blood transfusion and has had another since. She was also later told she had a UTI - but has had no treatment for it.

Mum was moved to Neustad Welton ward yesterday. Whilst in general the care staff were good I do feel there was a lack of staff on the ward, again this distracted from the care required. This is my personal opinion.
When it came to pain relief this was poor for several days until a spinal pain block was eventually administered.

In my opinion my mothers recovery has been hampered by the delay in her treatment, this has led to a lack of confidence in her ability to walk.
I believe my recollection is correct, however my three sisters can be asked to corroborate any details.

It appears they wished to discharge her, even though she cannot walk, I believe this to be dangerous as well as far too early. Trying to discharge her when she can't even stand. Even telling her she can have her dog at day time in a rehab bed in a care home. Knowing that she is unable to walk

Whilst I realise that getting my mother walking again will be difficult, she is also complaining of a lot of pain, I feel this could have been made easier by early treatment.
