"Finding support as an MS patient"

About: Edgware Community Hospital / Neurological Rehabilitation Centre

(as the patient),

I have had MS for over 20 years, maybe longer.  I have been under the care of the MS team at Queen Square.  I injected myself weekly with Avonex Beta Interferon as my diagnosis was the relapsing remitting kind.  I had felt that my condition was changing last June after an MRI scan my diagnosis was altered to progressive and I confirmation of this would take another year to see after a further scan.  My mobility was worsening and I was finding it difficult and very tiring to get to Queen's Square.  Thankfully I was seen by the physio department and a really lovely lady suggested I should try a 4-wheel rollator.  Also she referred me to the MS physio team at Edgware.

This recommendation is why I am writing as I was introduced to Bhawani MS Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Update posted by Positivity (the patient)

I was introduced to Bhawani through the physiotherapists at Queen’s Square, she has introduced me to so many ways in which this progressive condition can be, and is now being, supported. Bhawani organised a team of people who will be providing support. She has wonderful insight into how the condition can affect mood and knows just who and how to engage with you to ensure you are okay.

Attending the monthly Friday morning group with fellow sufferers has left me feeling very humbled and grateful as it opens up access to lots of support to help you cope emotionally as well as with practical daily activities.

I’m so pleased I am now able to access this support within Barnet.
