"Specialist Occupational Therapy knowledge & skill set"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Rheumatology

(as the patient),

After being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia I was referred to specialist OT at Wishaw. I saw Kirsty. From the very first visit it was very clear that Kirsty was knowledgeable about Fibromyalgia and didn’t just dismiss it as sadly so many health professionals do. Kirsty spent time with me on that first  visit really listening to me and understanding how Fibro impacts me on a daily basis. She could see that I was tired and therefore arranged another shorter appointment at a time that allowed me to have my daily afternoon nap that keeps me functional. She gave me such good practical advice and I could see that she recognised how hard I work at self management of my condition. She even asked me if I would share with her my self management plan template so that she could possibly use it to help others.

During a particularly bad flare up, Kirsty visited me at home as she knew I was unable to drive temporarily due to a medication change. Kirsty continues to be there anytime that I need some advice as I continue to learn how to best manage my condition. An excellent example of a health professional who wants to work with me to manage my LTHC rather than tell me how to manage it. Very thankful for this amazing lady’s knowledge, manner and skill set. Thank you Kirsty

Dear Dazzle,

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent experience of the specialist rheumatology occupational therapy service at Wishaw.

I am absolutely delighted that Kirsty listened to your needs, and took time to find out how your condition impacts on your personal ability to undertake daily tasks. It is great to hear such positive feedback about Kirsty's approach and knowledge, and the impact this has made to you.

I will ensure that Kirsty and the wider occupational therapy team are advised of your feedback, as it will help to inform the future development of occupational therapy services.

Wishing you all the very best for the future

Janice

Dear Dazzle,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your positive comments regarding your input from our Rheumatology Occupational therapy team.

I shall pass your kind comments onto Kirsty, re how helpful you feel her advice has been in your daily life and that rather than cancelling the appointment, you felt it was beneficial that she saw you in your own home at that time. As Occupational therapists, we understand how a condition can affect every part of your daily life and strive to keep everyone as active and independent as possible.

I hope you continue to benefit from Kirsty's advice,

kind regards

Fiona
