I had a heart operation - mitral valve repair. The care in hospital was suberb. From cleaner to consultant the staff were great in every respect. The nursing staff in particular were magnificent. Caring , professional and so knowledgeable about cardio thorasic specialism.
My hospital experience was an entirely positive experience ... even the food ( apart from the soggy toast which I finally gave up on )
The operation itself has ( so far 3 weeks post op) been a success. Before the op I was very breathless walking up any incline and walking up stairs was really difficult. So far rehab is going very well. Walking birskly for 15 mins twice a day - hills included
Suggestions -
1 - more liaison with patient leading up to the operation. I had to phone to remind the hospital that I had been waiting 12 weeks since consultation.
2 - Include mindfulness with pre-op preparation. I was very apprehensive about the operation and this process proved invaluable. I would suggest it could be included in pre op physio session.
"My hospital experience was entirely positive"
