"I have made an excellent recovery"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Hairmyres / Acute Stroke Unit (Ward 6)

(as a service user),

An ambulance attended at my home within 10 minutes of calling 999. I was given immediate attention and was taken to Hairmyres Hospital.  I was met by the stroke team who provided prompt medical attention carrying out the required procedures for my condition which entailed a video link conversation with the stroke consultant who was on standby to advise me of the nature and details of the drug to be administered on my agreement.

The stroke team administered the drug and I was in Ward 7 for 5 days and received excellent care and attention from every member of staff, including Physio and Occupational Therapists.

I have made an excellent recovery and can't thank the NHS Staff at Hairmyres Hospital highly enough for the dedication and care I received.

Dear John the Golfer,

Firstly I thank you for your kind words and I will certainly pass your comments onto the Occupational Therapy Team within ward 7. They will be delighted with your feedback alluding to your positive experiences from being admitted to discharge.

It is always lovely to receive positive patient stories regarding their 'journey' and makes our job even more rewarding.

I hope that your rehabilitation continues to go well and wish you all the very best of health in the future.

Regards

Helen

Dear John the Golfer,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your story with us here on CareOpinion. I am so sorry to read about what happened. I would imagine that on a personal level there must be few things more terrifying than being told you are having a stroke. It is at that point that we as clinicians, while not loosing focus of the issue at hand, must also remember to not become fixated on the condition and remember there is person who is most likely scared and confused, or possibly even a bit overwhelmed. It always makes me really pleased to read stories such as this that highlight the smaller details that are so important such as having things like the nature of drug and procedure explained to you and of course a speedy response from us here at SAS.

I am assuming from our username that you enjoy a day on the green and I hope that you make a full recovery soon and get back to hitting those balls.

Thanks again and kind regards

Alan
