"Wonderful, kind, and so considerate"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Upper gastrointestinal sugery

(as the patient),

I had a nissen fundoplication at RCHT and the staff were absolutely incredible. Everyone involved in my care went the extra mile to make sure I was comfortable, safe and understood what was happening and why. They were all so compassionate and caring and did everything they could to make sure I wasn’t in too much discomfort or pain and reassure me throughout the process.

When I had some post-op complications, my surgeon came to see me regularly and went above and beyond to check out all possibilities as I was a complex case. He was really thorough, even seeking a second opinion from colleagues to ensure I was getting the right treatment and nothing was missed. He visited me as often as he could to check in and reassure me everything was in hand and keep me and my family updated. He also ensured that when I was ready to go home that everything I needed would be in place so I would be safe to do so and have the best possible recovery. Without a doubt the best hospital experience I have ever had, I was blown away by the level of care and compassion from staff, especially my surgeon, and deeply touched by how kind and thoughtful everyone was. All of the staff in the hospital, including the cleaning staff, porters, HCAs, nurses, doctors right up to consultants were wonderful, kind and so considerate. Nothing was too much trouble! They also kept my family up to date on everything throughout which was a huge reassurance and relief for them and meant they could ask questions directly which they found really helpful.
