"Appointment letters"

About: Birmingham Midland Eye Centre (Bmec)

(as the patient),

In 2016 I was referred to Birmingham eye hospital from Redditch by my optometrist as an emergency. My local hospital does not have out-of-hours eye doctor cover. I saw a doctor that night at the eye hospital after my son drove me there in the snow.

I attended another appointment later that year having been driven there by my daughter in law. After that appointment I notified the appropriate department that I wanted further appointments at my local hospital a ten minute walk from my home.

I then recieved two or three more appointments from Birmingham Eye Hospital. After each one I notified BEH that I wanted the appointments transferred to my local hospital. The last email I sent was not the politest and I finally got transferred to my local hospital.

I have recently received a letter signed by a senior operational manager  stating that -the intention is to note on your record that you do not require additional appointments with us for this original condition.

Why am I not marked on my records as no longer receiving care at BME but at my local hospital? I had to jump through hoops to be transferred so when I finally was I assumed my records there would be copied to my hospital and my status at BME would be marked no additional care/appointments required.

I do not require any further treatment or contact from BME. Perhaps improve communication between your various departments.

Thank you

I am very sorry to hear about your experience when using the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre. We have set processes for managing patients’ follow up and the letter you received was to ensure you were kept informed that we were discharging you following your treatment. I am sorry it was inconvenient for you, but I wish you well with your ongoing care at your local hospital.

Kind regards, Toby Lewis, Chief Executive.
