About: University Hospital Of North Durham / Older people's healthcare

we hear constantly about underpaid overworked nurses but from my experience if they stopped talking loudly in their little groups in the corridor and actually attempted some form of care for the patients they may be possibly worth what they are paid. i empty pallets in a warehouse for £8 an hour , how much are they earning? they did choose to be nurses after all. a man opposite my dad buzzed for help to use the toilet and was ignored. please dont tell me they were all very busy- i could hear them discussing holidays and diets in the corridor. the man wet himself and was then flung from one side of the bed to the other while they complained about changing his bed. if they had helped him in the first instance it would of been avoided.being in hospital myself for emergency bowel surgery, i was made to feel a nuisance if i asked for anything at all and the only person that spoke nicely to me was the lady who brought my lunch. they spent a very long time gossiping and laughing and in my opinion had no empathy whatsoever to their patients. i am not a demanding person.please do not say it was an isolated incident, it was not. if you are so sick of your well paid nursing job with fantastic pension, then leave. dont take it out on your patients. whatever their age they should be treated with dignity.

i even heard the staff making jokes about patients. please do not try to explain all this, the truth is they should be very grateful for the well paid job that they do. i would love to be indoors, clean, dealing with a challenging but rewarding job. i am covered in bruises, scratches out in all weathers and have a massive workload to do alone, have a pension that will give me £3.60 a week and dare not ever ring in sick. love your job or leave your job, but please stop telling us how stressful it is, and just get on and do it.
