"Can no longer access support for my long term..."

About: The James Cochrane Pract.

Unfortunately, the new AskmyGp system means that you cannot plan an appointment with a GP. I have a long term health condition for which I need advice about medication and support of a health care professional. The new system allows for rapid access in urgent cases, but doesn't allow me to plan. I tried today to sort an appointment out in 2 weeks time, but I can only book appointments 2 days in advance. The receptionist told me that I could make the appointment when I needed it! But I need to be able to plan my medical care to fit round childcare, hospital appointments and work commitments. Obviously, in a more urgent situation, an appointment in 1-2 days is excellent, but GPs are supposed to look after long term health problems, which now seems impossible. Sadly, I am registering at a new practice, which is a great pity as the GPs have been extremely helpful to me over the years, but the new system makes me feel that the practice does not want to be burdened with long term health conditions.

Thank you for your feedback regarding concerns highlighted with the recently introduced AskMyGP system.

I am sorry that your experience has been poor and I would like to thank you for raising these concerns with us.

At The James Cochrane we are seeking constructive ways to maintain safe, quality care within the finite resources available, whilst demands continue rise beyond the capacity of the service. AskMyGP was introduced to address some of these issues, however we acknowledge further improvements are required in these very challenging times and the Practice team are working extremely hard to ensure all patients receive a really positive experience, dealing with requests promptly, whilst we continue to deliver high standards of care.

I am disappointed that you feel you need to leave the Practice and would welcome the opportunity to discuss the specific concerns you have raised if possible.

Practice Business Manager
