About: Citizens Advice Sheffield / Sheffield Advocacy Hub The Longley Centre / Endcliffe ward (psychiatric intensive care unit)

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have been in hospital a few times and my advocate this time was just about the best I have ever had.  I felt that she really listened to me and had a good understanding of what was happening and a good manner.

She helped me get the right reports and then understand them including some police reports.  She went with me to tribunals and helped with asking questions on my  behalf.

I asked for an advocate whilst I was in hospital and the attendance was quite quick. She was nice to me, one of the best I have ever had in the trust.  

I was on Endcliffe ward high secure unit. Being there was not nice with patients very unwell. A  lot of the staff were agency and not talking in English so I didn’t understand and so was worried that they might be speaking about me.

I am glad to see that you had a good experience with regards to your advocate whilst on Endcliffe ward and that you felt well supported by her during meetings etc whilst on the ward.

With regards to your feedback about team members, we are working hard to recruit more substantive staff members at the present time so will have more regular staff available on the ward shortly. I will also feed back to the team with regards to the importance of communication and to be mindful of how their communication may impact upon others.

Just for clarity, Endcliffe is a psychiatric intensive care unit and not a high secure unit, though does care for very unwell service users at times. Best Wishes.
