"fabulous staff and great care"

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was visiting my elderly mother as she needed emergency care in the ambulatory care unit. I was worried as she had recurrent anaemia needling urgent transfusions and her gp had arranged same day treatment at the unit. She lives alone and wasn’t able to be as independent as a result of her worsening anaemia. Parking after a 2hr journey was easy. The A&e receptionist was lovely and helpful. She even correctly recognised my mum by describing her to me and then signposted me to the ambulatory care unit. I can’t think of many other a&e units that have such an individual and compassionate approach to the many that pass through the department. I’m a healthcare professional as well. The staff on the ambulatory care unit were kind, informative and helpful especially the senior nurse. My mum has gone from strength to strength since her transfusion and I’m so reassured knowing that she’s so well cared for at this hospital when in need. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such lovely feedback about the recent care your mum had in the Emergency Department and Ambulatory Care Unit at Eastbourne District General Hospital (DGH); we really appreciate it. First and foremost, we hope your mum is well and has continued to make a good recovery following her transfusion.

The Trust works hard to provide a high standard of care to all patients, and so we are delighted to read this was the experience you and your mum had. It is also assuring to know that the staff you and your mum came into contact with upheld our values in treatment of kindness, compassion, dignity and respect at all times - small, but nevertheless important, things that can make a difference to patients and their relatives at worrying or upsetting times and provide a source of comfort.

We will ensure your kind words of praise are shared with the clinical staff and management team responsible for Urgent Care at Eastbourne DGH as they will want to read how much you appreciated the care given to your mum. We wish her all the very best for good health now and in the future, as we do you and your wider family.
