I’m familiar with the check-in process using the touch screen, followed by waiting for your doctor’s appointment in the large seating area until your name appears on the display screens.
It works well. The bustle of a busy surgery, the people speaking at the reception desk, the pharmacy dispensing medicines is all part of a busy practice.
Today, however, I had an appointment for an immunisation and I discovered that self check-in has been extended to the Treatment Area. What a totally different experience! The reception desk in that area has been removed and a collection of silent people sat in a bare corporate space on the far side of the building. It was impersonal and unpleasant. One almost expected to be taken away for interrogation. It was dreadful.
Having said that, when my name came up on screen and I located the Room, I met the Nurse and the whole experience was transformed. She was exceptional - welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable, efficient and kind. Thank you Nurse.
"Dreadful experience"
