It is a busy ward; seems there are lots of us needing the special tailored care and attention the amazing staff here can give. I was admitted on an emergency basis for Accute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) with death on the cards without immediate treatment. Nine months and four cycles of chemotherapy later I have been given the all clear. Chemotherapy certainly brings its challenges for us patients, but the staff and doctors on this ward are extraordinarily adept at giving each patient individual care and doing the very best they can. It is just not like other wards in the hospital, it has a caring feel and particular professional atmosphere all its own. The staff get to know you and you them. As one nurse put it 'While you are here we become your extended family. We'll see a lot of each other'. It's very true, and it helps immensely. At first I honestly thought 'Oh damn, Blackpool! I must find a better hospital PDQ', but I have been so proven wrong on that, so, so many times, by this ward. I wouldn't go anywhere else now. They have my complete confidence and that's no easy thing to gain. Unprompted I totally recommend it. They work their hardest to save your life here, and they certainly saved mine!
"Extraordinary care from extraordinary people."
