After a coronary event following major surgery, I was enrolled on the Cardiac Rehab programme.
This involved 8 weeks (2 days/week) of structured. monitored exercise with target heart rates. It was supervised by a senior physiotherapist and senior nurse specialists.
After my coronary I was wary of exercise, whilst knowing that I needed to get my cardiac and physical fitness back. The support provided gave a structured programme led by dedicated professionals that provided tailored targets, giving the confidence to progress along the pathway. It was tough at first, but progressively I felt my fitness return, and was given the confidence and motivation to return to independent training within prescribed parameters.
I am now well on path to full fitness, and enjoying physical activity once more, with associated psychological benefits.
I can't praise this team highly enough. They are a credit to University Hospital Hairmyers.
The only downside to this was the atrocious parking situation at this hospital. Taking up to 45 mins circling the car park until with luck someone left (and therefore having to leave very early) could be extremely stressful ahead of an appointment time - not a good preparation for cardiac rehab!
"The only downside was the parking!"
