"Nephrostomy"

About: Kent & Canterbury Hospital / Urology

I have waited a while to write this to see if I feel any better about my treatment. NO. I was sent to K&C after going to another A&E department. When I arrived I was told I needed a Nephrostomy fitted. Told the surgery would not be that day but would happen within the following 3 days and I needed to be admitted. Spoke to the surgeon and explained that my partner who was with me had just come of nights (was in no fit state to drive the 25 miles return to get me some overnight stuff), and my teenager was taking a GSCE the next day, therefore could I go home and come back the next day after making arranges for etc. This was agreed. Came back the next day as requested. was placed in a day ward off clarke ward at 9am, Not allowed to drink eat etc (even though was only have a local). 1pm came and went 3pm, starving and thirsty went and asked what was going on if I was having surgery etc, as not one had spoken to me since 9am. A doctor was sent in, but he had no idea what I was even therefore and my partner told him to go away and come back when he knew something. 4pm - asked the nurse on the ward (as by my name on the board it suddenly said no bed available) what was happening, just got shouted at we have a bed you will go down when they are ready. 4.30pm a doctor popped in and explained I would be going down in 15 minutes. Porter turns up and takes me to surgery. in the anaesthetic room, i was asked when my last pain relief was my reply ' you are the first person to ask today if I am in pain', asked where is your mark, 'what mark' surgery mark the nurse should do, my reply 'havent seen a nurse', and guess what still had my jewellery as the nurse had told the porter she didn't need to see me. The Doctors apologised and done the surgery, back on the ward, I asked to see a Doctor as in the surgery things were said that where different to what I had been told before. The nurse said as I signed the paperwork I should have asked then!. and then started moaning at me for 'discharging myself the day before' and talking to me as if I was 5. I admit I did shout at her but I did not discharge myself no papers where signed to say I did, I agreed with the surgeon to return the next day (and did). Then from 9pm to 6pm no one came in to check on me, no breakfast in the morning as no one had asked me what I would like. The toilets in the middle of the night were full wee bottles, if not all over the floor. In the morning my bed was needed so I waited for my partner in the corridor, got bored with that so left the ward on my own and no one noticed. The following day a community nurse turned up at my door for information, as the hospital had only passed on my address and dressing change, no name or phone number or what procedure I had. What else did I expect! Had to cut this short as only allowed 3000 characters!
