"Cancelled appointment"

About: Victoria Hospital / Pre-assessment Victoria Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

Got appointment, arrived at hospital to be told my operation was cancelled. The nurse said they were not informed, and I was not informed. I was upset at that but I was told to wait in waiting room, the nurse told me she phoned up and nobody could tell her what was going on - somebody going on holiday - I explained I had been unwell since February with kidney stones and large cyst on right testicle. It took a while to get my cyst operated on but through my doctor and all the staff at Victoria hospital they couldn't fit me in and they said I couldn't wait any longer so they arranged for me to go private.

I am now recovering from that opp so at my pre-op appointment for my stent and stone to be removed I was upset, but one nurse said the magic words "you are not going anywhere till you get your assessment". I'm 66 yrs old, still working but have been on sick since February. I don't get paid I need to get back to work so her words gave me hope. I cant thank that nurse enough for doing something she did not have to do and I want to add I have had 4 or 5 stays in hospital over the last 3 months and can't fault any of the nurses doctors or surgeons our NHS is a first class act. Thank you to my pre ops angel.

Dear Riskie, Thank you for sharing your feedback on care opinion. It is reassuring to read that you have now had your operation and you were happy with the care when you were in hospital.

I can appreciate that leading up to this, things didn’t go to plan and it sounds like there was poor communication, on behalf of the service I apologise for this.

I am pleased that this is all sorted now however If you think it would be helpful to discuss this further then I would be happy to speak with you.

Regards Arlene

I am sorry to say there has been a mix up I got my opp for my cyste the cancellation was for my stent and stones that I've had for about 4 month I had an appointment to see someone about that all the pamphlet s mentioned this thing was going to be inserted in my penis to remove the stent and they were going to crush the stone in my tube thats when I found out my appointment was not for that it was about my cyste so I've been in pain since dec as thats when I first started to have pain. I've been admitted to hospital 4 or 5 times in agony and going into shock I am still in pain and I cant do anything about that till I get treated I know about the waiting lists but I cant take much more of this I don't fault the hospital I'm 66 yrs old I don't deal with pain as much as I used to I hope I don't put anybody off with my experience as I have nothing but respect for our nhs Riskie
