My first contact with the nursing staff came when I visited the Pre- assessment Suit at Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy. I was a little anxious as its a big decision to sign up for what is a major operation.
I was greeted warmly and ushered to a seat to await other patients arrival, there was time to complete paperwork and be reminded that in all it would perhaps take up the whole morning.
I was introduced to the others in my group and given an informative talk on hip replacement treatment, after care and what we should expect. The talk took a very realistic approach and didn't fudge levels of pain to be expected. We were able to ask any questions we had even the seemingly silly ones. Told to keep fluids up prior to operation too. After this we met with OT, Physio,Our Consultant, Had EEG,Vital signs, bloods, swabs monitored and Nurse Practitioner for full individual medical history. Altogether a most impressive and informative morning. Useful pamphlets given to take home. Well done to the whole team who did a great job with us all.
"Well done to the whole team"
