"No operating slots for 2 months"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Spinal injuries unit

(as the patient),

I have a prolapsed disc with nerve compression. I had to wait 6 months for a MRI scan to diagnose with this in Oct 2018. I have been waiting for an operation which I should have had in April 2019. I have been phoning every month to see whereabouts I am on the list and it has been slowly going down as my neurosurgeon was only 1 operating slot a week. this is for Queen Elizabeth hospital in Glasgow. I phoned last month and there was about 10 people infront of me. I have just phoned again and I've been told theres still the same number infront of me as my surgeon has not had any operating slots for 2 months due to staff shortages. if I never phoned nobody would have communicated with me. I am in pain every day and not been able to work since Nov 2018. I think it is shocking the amount of time I've had to wait plus everybody else on the list

Dear Katieboo

Thank you for getting in touch.

Our waiting times for orthopaedics are longer than we would like and we are doing what we can to reduce these. I know this does not help when you are in pain and are unable to work. I will raise your concerns with the Orthopaedic Team including the lack of communication and ask for an update on waiting times.

Please accept my apologies.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Thankyou for the quick reply but this doesn't help my situation.I haven't even been offered to go anywhere else to have my operation quicker.my surgeon told me in Jan that he was promised more operating slots and this has not happened
