I actually feel so very lucky to have been treated at the LRI Maxillofacial Department.I had a horrendous experience at my Dentist. In the end I called at this department, the pain I was in was indescribable, in fact I came so close to committing suicide. From the moment we arrived at the reception desk and the lovely man and lady were so concerned for me, I was seen within minutes, the Dr and nursing staff who treated me were so gentle and concerned, they cleaned left over infection plus bits of tooth and Alvogel left in the cavity following my Dentist extracting 2 teeth on my lower right hand jaw. They then gave me antibiotics and made me a further appointment, I was told if the pain got worse to go right back which I ended up having to do several times, as the Alvogel dressing had been packed down so far it entered the root canal, the only way to remove this was to admit me. I underwent an operation to remove this BUT once in theatre they discovered the infection was so bad it had fractured my lower jaw which explained the CONSTANT AGONY I was in. I was taken back to my room on the ward and told of this, my Consultant then explained they would have to customise a titanium plate to fix my broken jaw and this would take a few days. They kept updating me daily with the progress and finally I went back to theatre and the plate was fitted successfully, the minute I came round there was NO MORE PAIN, can you imagine that feeling, it was so very welcome after 16 weeks of constant pain I can tell you. The care from the Maxillofacial Department was ongoing, my only complaint was a nurse on the ward I returned to, she was so rude and abrupt to me and most certainly is not the caring profession I believe in.I am monitored regularly and it's a pleasure to go back and speak to people I have so much care and respect for, they have been totally honest with me and told me it's unlikely the numbness that has been present from my bottom right side lip and spreading all down my neck is very unlikely to right itself, it has been there since my previous dentist removed the 2nd tooth which all started off as a simple tooth abscess, unbelievable really.I cannot stress just how much I want to thank everyone I came into contact with, thank you seems inadequate.Yours sincerely Stella Smith.
"Thank you, thank you and once again THANK YOU !"
