I had a routine outpatient appointment at the opthalmology department at the QMH in Fife for my 1 year old. We were made to wait for over an hour in the hot waiting room for no apparent reason while every other patient who came in was taken before us. When we were finally seen, no-one apologised, we were told this was a two part appointment and that they would put some drops in her eyes which would take half an hour to work, when we would then need to wait to see the consultant. Needless to say my 1 year who'd been getting pretty upset in the waiting room didn't cooperate for that and so we left after a pointless 1.5 hours. I have now cancelled my return appt because I cannot face being treated like that again.
I'm self employed and had to cancel a whole afternoon of patients to come to this disorganised clinic.
As an aside I was also told to "hold my baby like you're giving them a bottle"... They had just seen me breastfeed my daughter to try and pacify her so clearly I didn't know what they were telling me to do, and it's completely inappropriate and unsafe to feed any child lying down. Please promote proper infant feeding within the NHS.
