I had pregnancy induced hypertension that started at around 34 weeks gestation, I had an over night stay on holly ward as blueberry was full and I was discharged the following day and attended antenatal day unit where they kept monitoring me.
At 35+2 I believed I had lost my plug/had a show and rang Blueberry labour ward and they told me to make my way up to the hospital so off we went they told me I never lost my plug/had a show however decided to keep me in for the hypertension’s. At 2am my waters went the student midwife on shift that night was lovely, the same can’t be said for the doctor that night though. Student got me up out of bed cleared the bed and I had a bath and then was hooked up to the monitor.
Baby’s ecg wasn’t perfect so they chose to induce me using the drip to help speed labour along. As well as antibiotics because she was pre term and that’s a precaution they do. I decided I wanted a epidural but was warned it might take awhile however they came pretty quickly to do it.
Unfortunately when I reached 10cm it became quite an emergency my baby’s heart rate wasn’t great and my blood pressure had shot up however it was dealt with, the consultant came and chose to deliver my baby with the help of a kiwi cup (ventouse) and was delivered within 15 minutes.
Midwife on that evening was quite abrupt but I didn’t take much notice she helped with breast feeding and getting the neonatal nurse down for doing my baby's blood sugar levels.
Overall good experience my baby was on neonatal ward and we was given a flat on there so the community midwifes came up and checked on me for 10 days after I’d given birth and I honestly couldn’t fault the care.
They also offer an afterthoughts service with a lady called Von I highly recommend it, it’s a fantastic service and helped me a lot come to terms with the fact that I did have an assisted birth.
I’d honestly recommend this hospital to everybody.
