"Surgery for rectal cancer"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Colorectal surgery

(as the patient),

I had major surgery for rectal cancer at Lincoln County hospital.

I was very nervous before this operation because of the nature of the surgery and the anaesthesia. It also meant that I would have a permanent stoma. However, I can now say wholeheartedly that I am really pleased that I had it done. I am still recovering but I feel much better, plus the surgery removed the tumour and all of the cancer.

The anaesthetists were fantastic and I woke up pain free in ICU. The staff there were second to none and I felt very well cared for. The surgeon has done a tremendous job and I’m really pleased with the results.

The follow up stoma care that I’ve received from the specialist nurses has been excellent and they have given me invaluable support during a difficult time.

If I have one small gripe, it’s the food! It was quite often bland and there weren’t always a lot of healthy choices.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in my care at Lincoln County hospital.

On behalf of the ICU team I would like to thank you for your kind comments. I am pleased that you felt well cared for and that we were able to manage your pain effectively. I shall pass your comments on to the doctors and nurses involved in your care.

I shall also feed back your comments to the colorectal nurses. they are an excellent team and I'm sure they will continue to support you through this difficult time

I'm sorry you found the food bland. I know the hospitality team work hard to provide a number of choices for a wide variety of tastes and I apologise on their behalf.

I hope your recovery continues to go smoothly and thank you again for taking the time to tell us your story
