"Appointment miscommunication"

About: Cherrymead Surgery

(as the patient),

I spoke to a receptionist at the Cherrymead Surgery and explained that I would like to see a GP regarding a pain (lump) on my breast. I was told that they will book an appointment for one of the GPs to call and have a word with me (teleconsultation) and then decide whether to come or not. I confirmed my telephone number twice on the phone and even stated to please inform the GP to leave a voice message and a number to call back in case if the network isn't very good. All sorted on the phone. Then I received a message afterwards saying an appointment had been booked at 4.42pm that day.

In my mind, this was a phone call as I was advised on the phone. Note: the message didn't specify whether a face to face appointment or phone call was booked.

I waited for the call at the said time and didn't receive any phone call. So I decided to call back to find out what happened, only to be told that I had missed my appointment. I was in total shock and couldn't even inform the second receptionist what happened in the morning (miscommunication) as I wanted to see if I can quickly rebook but was told sorry you'd have to call back the next day to book another appointment.

I felt bad and disappointed.

Please listen to the phone call I had with the receptionist earlier in the day. You need to act on this as this could lead to high DNA rate at your practice (miscommunication). Please work on your text messaging system (put Face2Face appointment or telephone appointment).

Kindly review and ensure this doesn't happen to other patients.

I had no choice than to visit the MIU at High Wycombe. This will be an extra cost to the NHS.

I wish I can follow this up but haven't got time.

Thanks
