"Bless you all"

About: Northwick Park Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

My wife drove me to my local GP practise against my protests. Our doctor immediately showed concern and generated the paperwork, called NW Park and made me suddenly aware that I was very ill.

On arrival at Northwick Park, after a brief delay I was shunted away to X-Ray and then hung around in a stuffy cubicle feeling forgotten. Next I was shunted to HDU (High Dependency Unit) where I was place in the hands of the most amazing people I have ever been privileged to encounter. The skill, professionalism, compassion and continual hard work throughout their gruelling 12 hour shifts. It was not long before I realised that I was being nursed by the finest human beings in my world. To think medical staff are sometimes attacked makes my blood boil.

Several years ago my wife had a very nasty experience with A & E and I sincerely hoped that I would never find myself there. Yet today I am so emotional and grateful for the incredible care that I received from the consultants, doctors, physios, porters, nurses and cleaners. Not only on the 4th floor but also on Haldane on the 8th where the staff taking blood pressure or other routine duties, could not do enough to make me feel comfortable. I have told people that I fell in love with all the nurses. In a way I did. What a credit they are to their training, their upbringing and their families. Over-the-top? Maybe. But this is the impression, the mark of humility that they left upon me. It wasn't just an unpleasant experience. I came away with much more.

I would like to thank each and every one of the wonderful staff that cared for me but I can only remember a handful of names. Bless you all.
