"Memory assessment"

About: St Vincents / Cognitive Impairment & Dementia

(as a carer),

My mother was referred to the memory clinic to undergo an assessment.

The worker undertaking the assessment was very clear in her explanations about the stages of the assessment process and what to expect.

I found the worker to be very patient and work at my mothers pace. The worker showed a willingness to work in partnership with my mother and through this developed a positive, working relationship with her, which helped to alleviate my mothers earlier fears of this process.

In addition, the worker was able to complete a holistic assessment which considered the needs of the carers within the family and providing support information to access services, including looking at the safety issues within the home.

My mother was very pleased by the way she was treated by the worker managing her case, in her words "I felt respected, and found the worker to be very nice, warm and friendly"

My mother had to attend a follow up appointment at the Memory Clinic Offices and again found the staff to be helpful and the information she received to be clear and, again releasing any previous concerns she may of had about this process.

Although, we have come close to the end of our work with the memory clinic service, as a family we feel we were given the opportunity to participate in my mothers treatment plan and appropriately be updated as necessary at each stage; more importantly my mother felt included and informed.

I feel the Memory Clinic service works well and shows a real commitment to providing a positive experience to the diverse community it serves.  The workers are able to maintain their professional boundaries, but also are able to show empathy and warmth.

We thank the Memory Clinic staff, in particular the worker who managed my mothers case, for providing a very positive experience.

Thank you so much for your comments. I am very pleased to hear that you had a positive experience in the memory clinic at Hammersmith and Fulham. Staff really appreciate it when they receive positive statements from our patients and families.
