Our son was recently born in the pool, in the beautiful midwives unit at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. The whole experience was one of the best in my life. The care level was extremely high, laid back and relaxed, but highly professional and I felt very safe and secure.
I attended the triage unit initially, was checked and then given options with advice, but left to decide how i wished to labour and be cared for.
I was shortly after transfered to the pool room for ongoing care as per my plan.
On entering the pool, the relief was instant and overwhelming. The temperature of the water helped the backache during contractions, and the weightlessness allowed me to move through contractions freely allowing my labour to progress. As this was my first baby, I didnt know how id cope with the pain, but with the amazing effects of the pool, and the incredible support from the midwives I made it though and found the experience incredibly positive.
Our son was then delivered in the pool, then after getting cleaned up, I was moved to a different room in the midwives unit to rest and cuddle our beautiful son until we went home 6 hours after. This room was very homely and cosy and made us feel comfortable and relaxed.
I can honestly say I loved my labour experience, and this is absolutely down to the incredible level of care, and the amazing pool.
I will recommend the birthing pool at AMH at every opportunity.
