About: Crosshouse Hospital / Combined Assessment Unit (CAU)

(as a relative),

My Father was admitted to the Combined Assessment Unit (CAU) following a rapid deterioration in his health, related to a recent cancer diagnosis.  We knew it was unlikely he would return home.

CAU staff demonstrated what is often easily forgotten in a fast-paced, bureaucratic and complainant modern health-care environment and that is;  the value in humanistic, compassionate attentiveness.  The hospitality, warmth and space that was shown to me and my family throughout my fathers short stay, was on par with an expensive meal or an exclusive hotel stay:)
There is not a degree or qualification in the world that could prepare these wonderful nurses for the art they are so engaged in and would urge them to remain in a clinical role throughout their advancing career,  as that is where the real nursing lies and should remain.
Can I please pass my heartfelt appreciation and thanks to my fathers named nurses throughout his time, the nursing assistants, the reception staff who let us in so often, and the medical staff.  I'm sorry I cannot remember all the names and they all played an equal part but do remember Rhiannon.

Dear Kanerz19

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such kind feedback at such a difficult time for you and your family. I am delighted to hear that the staff in CAU were able to provide such holistic and person centred care to not only your father, but your wider family. I know as a nurse myself, being able to provide supportive, compassionate care to patients at the end of life is such a privilege and to know that you have helped the patient and their family at such a difficult time is extremely rewarding.

I will ensure that the staff in CAU are made aware of your kind post

Best Wishes

Laura
